in this case, the maintained descent speed islower.Activation of the system may cause noisein the transmission. This is perfectlynormal and has no consequence on thebehaviour of the vehicle. On a downward slope, with the vehiclestationary, if the driver releases the acceleratorand brake pedals, the system will release thebrakes to set the vehicle gradually in motion. The brake lamps light up automatically when thesystem is regulating. If the speed exceeds 19 mph (30 km/h),regulation is paused automatically, the indicatorlamp goes back to grey in the instrument panel.Regulation resumes automatically when thespeed falls below 19 mph (30 km/h) again, if theslope and pedal release conditions are met.The driver can depress the accelerator or brakepedal again at any time.MalfunctionIn the event of a malfunction, thiswarning lamp comes on in green onthe instrument panel, accompaniedby the display of a message.Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or aqualified workshop.Seat beltsInertia reelThe seat belts are equipped with an inertiareel which allows the strap length to adjustautomatically to the shape of the user. The seatbelt returns to its storage automatically when it isnot used. The inertia reels are fitted with a device whichautomatically locks the strap in the event of acollision, emergency braking or if the vehiclerolls over. It can be released by pulling the strapfirmly and then releasing it so that it reels inslightly.Pyrotechnic pretensioningThis system improves safety in the event of afrontal or side impact.Depending on the severity of the impact, the pyrotechnic pretensioning system instantlytightens the seat belts against the body of theoccupants. The pyrotechnic pretensioning seat belts areenabled when the ignition is on.Force limiting systemThis system reduces the pressure of the seatbelt on the chest of the occupant, thus improvingtheir protection.Progressive force limiting systemThis system reduces the pressure of the seatbelt on the chest of the occupant, takingtheir stature into account, thus improving theirprotection. In the event of an impactDepending on the nature and seriousnessof the impacts, the pyrotechnic device maytrigger before and independently of airbagdeployment. Deployment of the pretensionersis accompanied by a slight discharge ofharmless smoke and a noise, due tothe activation of the pyrotechnic cartridgeincorporated in the system. In all cases, the airbag warning lamp comeson.Following an impact, have the seat beltsystem checked, and if necessary replaced,by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifiedworkshop.Front seat beltsEach of the front seats has a three-point seatbelt with inertia reel. The front seat belts are fitted with a pyrotechnicpretensioning system and a progressive forcelimiting system.Safety90Rear seat belts
Each of the rear seats has a three-point seat beltwith inertia reel. The outer seats are fitted with a pyrotechnicpretensioning and force limiting system.FasteningPull the strap, then insert the tongue into thebuckle.Check that the seat belt is fastened correctlyby pulling on the strap.UnfasteningPress the red button on the buckle.Guide the seat belt as it is reeled in.Third row seatbeltsThird row seatbelts are always visible and fixed.Seat belt not fastened/unfastened alerts1Front left seat belt indicator lamp2Front right seat belt indicator lamp3Second row left seat belt indicator lamp4Second row centre seat belt indicator lamp5Second row right seat belt indicator lamp6Third row left seat belt indicator lamp7Third row right seat belt indicator lampSeat belts not fastened/unfastenedidentification indicator lampsThe red indicator lamps (1 to 5 or 7) on theinstrument panel indicate the location of theseat belts which are not fastened or have beenunfastened. Not fastened/unfastened warning lampIt comes on in red on the instrumentpanel as soon as the system detectsthat a seat belt is not fastened or hasbeen unfastened.Safety915In this case, the vehicle symbol containing thebelt indicator lamps for each seat also lights upred.Front seat belt not fastened alertWhen the ignition is switchedon, if the driver orfront passenger has notfastened their seat belt, thecorresponding indicator lamp (1 or 2) comes onin red. At a speed greater than 12 mph (20km/h), the warning lamp and the correspondingindicator lamp flash red, accompanied by anaudible signal for around 2 minutes. After thistime has elapsed, the indicator lamp remains onfixed in red until the seat belt is fastened.
Second row seat belt not fastened alertWhen the ignition is switched on, ifone of the second row passengershas not fastened their seat belt, thecorresponding indicator lamp (3, 4 or5)comes on in red for 1 minute.Seat belt unfastened alertAfter the ignition is switchedon, if the driver or a passengerunfastens their seat belt, thecorresponding indicator lamp(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7) comes on in red. Theairbags supplement the action of the seat beltsequipped with a force limiting system.Electronic detectors record and analyse thefront and side impacts sustained in the impactdetection zones:–In the event of violent impact, the airbagsdeploy instantly and help better protect theoccupants of the vehicle; immediately after theimpact, the airbags deflate rapidly in order notto hinder the visibility or the possible exit of theoccupants.–In the event of a slight impact, a rear impactand under certain rollover conditions, the airbagsmay not deploy; only the seat belt helps toprotect you in these situations. The seriousness of the impact depends on thenature of the obstacle and the speed of thevehicle at the moment of collision. The airbags do not operate when theignition is switched off. This equipment will only deploy once. If asecond impact occurs (during the same or asubsequent accident), the airbag will not bedeployed again.Impact detection zonesA.Front impact zoneB.Side impact zoneWhen one or more airbags are deployed, the detonation of the pyrotechnic chargeincorporated in the system makes a noiseand releases a small quantity of smoke. This smoke is not harmful, but sensitiveindividuals may experience irritation. The detonation noise associated with thedeployment of one or more airbags mayresult in a slight loss of hearing for a shorttime.Front airbagsThis system protects the driver and frontpassenger in the event of a serious front impact, limiting the risk of head and chest injury. The driver's airbag is fitted in the centre of thesteering wheel; the front passenger airbag isfitted in the dashboard above the glove box.DeploymentThey are deployed, except for the frontpassenger airbag if it is deactivated*4, in theevent of a violent front impact applied to all orpart of front impact zone A.The front airbag inflates between the chest andhead of the front occupant of the vehicle andthe steering wheel, on the driver's side, and thedashboard, on the passenger's side, to cushiontheir forward movement.Lateral airbagsThis system protects the driver and frontpassenger in the event of a serious side impact,4For more information on Deactivating the front passenger airbag, refer to the corresponding section.Safety935
