At the same time, the wheel with the mostgrip is controlled in such a way as to transmit asmuch traction torque as possible.When moving, the system optimises wheel spinto respond to the driver's requirements as fullyas possible.(mode active up to 31 mph (50 km/h))SandThis mode allows little spin on the two drivingwheels at the same time to allow the vehicle tomove forward and limit the risks of getting stuckin the sand.(mode active up to 75 mph (120 km/h))Do not use the other modes on sand asthe vehicle may become stuck.RecommendationsThe vehicle is designed principally to driveon tarmac roads, but it may occassionallydrive on other less passable terrain.However, it does not permit off-road driving:– Driving on terrain that can damage theunderbody or tear off elements (e.g. fuelpipe, fuel cooler) by obstacles or stones inparticular.– Driving on terrain with steep gradients andpoor grip.– Crossing a waterway.Hill Assist DescentControlHill Assist Descent Control system for medium tosteep slopes, on tarmac or other road surfaces(e.g. gravel, mud).This system reduces the risk of slip or loss ofcontrol of the vehicle when descending, whethergoing forward or in reverse.During a descent, the system assists the driverin maintaining a constant speed, depending onthe gear engaged, while progressively releasingthe brakes.For the system to activate, the gradientmust be greater than 5%.The system can be used with the gearselector at N, D or R .The system is no longer available if thespeed of the vehicle is:– above 43 mph (70 km/h).– managed by the Adaptive cruise controlfunction.Activation/DeactivationBy default, the system is not selected.The state of the system is not saved when theignition is switched off.The driver can also select the system whenthe engine is running or when the vehicle isstationary.To select the system, at speeds below 31 mph(50 km/h):►Press this button; a window is displayed onthe touchscreen.►Click "Hill Assist Descent Control" buttonto activate/deactivate.►The system is activated when thisindicator lamp appears in grey onthe instrument panel.►The system becomes active atspeeds below 19 mph (30 km/h);this indicator lamp lights up ingreen on the instrument panel.►When the vehicle begins its descent, thedriver can release the accelerator and brakepedals; the system regulates the speed:– If the gearbox is in first or secondgear, 5 the speed decreases and theindicator lamp flashes rapidly.– If the gearbox is in neutral, the speeddecreases and the indicator lamp flashes slowly;Safety895
in this case, the maintained descent speed islower.Activation of the system may cause noisein the transmission. This is perfectlynormal and has no consequence on thebehaviour of the vehicle.On a downward slope, with the vehiclestationary, if the driver releases the acceleratorand brake pedals, the system will release thebrakes to set the vehicle gradually in motion.The brake lamps light up automatically when thesystem is regulating.If the speed exceeds 19 mph (30 km/h),regulation is paused automatically, the indicatorlamp goes back to grey in the instrument panel.Regulation resumes automatically when thespeed falls below 19 mph (30 km/h) again, if theslope and pedal release conditions are met.The driver can depress the accelerator or brakepedal again at any time.MalfunctionIn the event of a malfunction, thiswarning lamp comes on in green onthe instrument panel, accompaniedby the display of a message.Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or aqualified workshop.Seat beltsInertia reelThe seat belts are equipped with an inertiareel which allows the strap length to adjustautomatically to the shape of the user. The seatbelt returns to its storage automatically when it isnot used.The inertia reels are fitted with a device whichautomatically locks the strap in the event of acollision, emergency braking or if the vehiclerolls over. It can be released by pulling the strapfirmly and then releasing it so that it reels inslightly.Pyrotechnic pretensioningThis system improves safety in the event of afrontal or side impact.Depending on the severity of the impact,the pyrotechnic pretensioning system instantlytightens the seat belts against the body of theoccupants.The pyrotechnic pretensioning seat belts areenabled when the ignition is on.Force limiting systemThis system reduces the pressure of the seatbelt on the chest of the occupant, thus improvingtheir protection.Progressive force limiting systemThis system reduces the pressure of the seatbelt on the chest of the occupant, takingtheir stature into account, thus improving theirprotection.In the event of an impactDepending on the nature and seriousnessof the impacts, the pyrotechnic device maytrigger before and independently of airbagdeployment. Deployment of the pretensionersis accompanied by a slight discharge ofharmless smoke and a noise, due tothe activation of the pyrotechnic cartridgeincorporated in the system.In all cases, the airbag warning lamp comeson.Following an impact, have the seat beltsystem checked, and if necessary replaced,by a PEUGEOT dealer or a qualifiedworkshop.Front seat beltsEach of the front seats has a three-point seatbelt with inertia reel.The front seat belts are fitted with a pyrotechnicpretensioning system and a progressive forcelimiting system.Safety90Rear seat belts
