Peugeot 5008 2009-2016 Owner's Manual Child safety

6Child safety1155008_en_Chap06_securite-enfants_ed01-2015General points relating to child seatsAlthough one of PEUGEOT main criteria when designing your vehicle, the safety of your children also depends on you.For maximum safety, please observe the following recommendations:-in accordance with European regulations, all children under the age of 12 or less than one and a half metres tall must travel in approved child seats suited to their weight, on seats fitted with a seat belt or ISOFIX mountings*,-statistically, the safest seats in your vehicle for carrying children are the rear seats,-a child weighing less than 9 kg must travel in the "rearward facing" position both in the front and in the rear.* The regulations on carrying children are specific to each country. Refer to the legislation in force in your country.PEUGEOT recommends that children should travel in the outerrear seats of your vehicle:-"rearward facing" up to the age of 3,-"forward facing" over the age of 3.
Child safety1165008_en_Chap06_securite-enfants_ed01-2015Passenger seat in the fully back and highest position.Forward facingWhen a forward facing child seat is installed on the front passenger seat, adjust the vehicle seat to the fully back and highest position, with the backrest straightened. Leave the passenger's airbag active.Rearward facingWhen a rearward facing child seat is installed on the front passenger seat, adjust the vehicle seat to the fully back and highest position, with the backrest straightened. The passenger's airbag must be deactivated. Otherwise, the child risks being seriously injured or killed if the airbag is deployed.Child seat at the front*Ensure that the seat belt is properly tightened. For child seats with a support leg, ensure that this is in firm and steady contact with the floor. If necessary, adjust the passenger's seat.* Refer to the legislation in force in your country before installing a child seat on this seating position.
6Child safety1175008_en_Chap06_securite-enfants_ed01-2015Passenger airbag OFFFor information on deactivating the passenger's front airbag, refer to the "Airbags" section.Deactivating the passenger's front airbagNever install a rearward facing child restraint system on a seat protected by an active front airbag. This could cause the death of the child or serious injury. The warning label present on both sides of the passenger's sun visor repeats this advice. In line with current legislation, the following tables contain this warning in all of the languages required.

Child safety1205008_en_Chap06_securite-enfants_ed01-2015Child seat at the rear"Rearward facing"When a rearward facing child seat is installed on a rear passenger seat, move the vehicle's front seat forward and straighten the backrest so that the rearward facing child seat does not touch the vehicle's front seat."Forward facing"When a forward facing child seat is installed on a rear passenger seat, move the vehicle's front seat forward and straighten the backrest so that the legs of the child in the forward facing child seat do not touch the vehicle's front seat.Seats in the 3rd rowWhen a child seat is installed on a 3rd row passenger seat, move the 2nd row seat forwards and straighten the backrest so that the child seat and the legs of the child do not touch the 2nd row seat.A child seat with a stay must never be installed on a 3rd row passenger seat.Ensure that the seat belt is correctly tensioned. For child seats with a support leg, ensure that this is in firm contact with the floor. If necessary, adjust the front seat of the vehicle.
6Child safety1215008_en_Chap06_securite-enfants_ed01-2015Installing a child seat with a support legIf the support leg is long enough, you can adjust it so that it contact the bottom of the storage compartment. Remove all objects from the storage compartment before installing the support leg.Another possibility, if the support leg is long enough and can be inclined sufficiently (always by following the recommendations given in the installation instructions for the child seat), is to position the support leg so that it contacts the floor away from the storage compartment. Adjust the longitudinal position of the front or rear seat to obtain a satisfactory position for the support leg away from the storage compartment.Care must be taken when installing a child seat with a support leg in the vehicle. In particular you should look for the presence of a storage compartment below the rear seat footwells. If you cannot fit the support leg in the way described in one of these twoprocedures, you should not fit a child seat with support leg to this seat.Do not place the support leg on the storage compartment cover; it might break in a serious impact. Where the adjustments of the support leg allow it, we suggest two other possibilities for installation. The centre rear seat does not have a storage compartment below the footwell. You can therefore easily fit a child seat with a support leg, whether installed with the Isofix mountings or using the 3 point seat belt.At the bottom of the storage compartmentAway from the storage compartment area

6Child safety1335008_en_Chap06_securite-enfants_ed01-2015RecommendationsChild seatsThe incorrect installation of a child seat in a vehicle compromises the child's protection in the event of an accident.Check that there is no seat belt or seat belt buckle under the child seat as this could destabilise it.Remember to fasten the seat belts or the child seat harnesses keeping the slack in relation to the child's body to a minimum, even for short journeys. For the installation of a child seat using a seat belt, ensure that this is well tensioned on the child seat and that it is holding the child seat firmly against the seat of your vehicle. If your front passenger seat is adjustable, move it forward if necessary. At the rear seats, always leave sufficient space between the front seat and:-a rearward facing child seat,-the feet of a child seated in a forward facing child seat. For this, move the front seat forward and if necessary straighten its backrest.Children at the frontFor optimum installation of the "forward facing" child seat, ensure that the back of the child seat is as close as possible to the backrest of the vehicle's seat, or in contact if possibleThe head restraint must be removed before installing a child seat with a backrest on the passenger seat.Ensure that the head restraint is stowed or attached securely so that it is not thrown around the vehicle in the event of sharp braking.Refit the head restraint as soon as the child seat is removed. The legislation on carrying a child on the front passenger seat is specific to each country. Refer to the legislation in force in the country in which you are driving.Deactivate the passenger's front airbag when a "rearward facing" child seat is installed on the front passenger seat. Otherwise, the child would risk being seriously injured or killed if the airbag were deployed.Installing a booster cushionThe chest part of the seat belt must be positioned on the child's shoulder without touching the neck.Ensure that the lap part of the seat belt passes correctly over the child's thighs.PEUGEOT recommends the use of a booster seat which has a back, fitted with a seat belt guide at shoulder level. As a safety precaution, do not leave:-one or more children alone and unsupervised in a vehicle,-a child or an animal in a vehicle which is exposed to the sun, with the windows closed,-the keys within reach of children inside the vehicle. To prevent accidental opening of the doors, use the "Child lock".Take care not to open the rear windows by more than one third. To protect young children from the rays of the sun, fit side blinds on the rear windows.
