Never insert a finger in the locking systemof the motorised tailgate - risk of seriousinjury! To avoid the risk of injury through pinchingor trapping, before and during operation ofthe motorised tailgate:– ensure that there is no-one close to the rearof the vehicle.– monitor the activity of the rear passengers, particularly any children.Bicycle carrier/Towing deviceThe motorised tailgate is not designed to supporta bicycle carrier. When installing a bicycle carrier on the towingdevice with connection of the cable to the trailersocket, the remote controls for the motorisedoperation of the tailgate will be automaticallydeactivated. However, it is still possible to use the twocontrols located on the motorised tailgate. If using a towing device or bicyclecarrier not recommended by PEUGEOT,it is essential to deactivate the motorisedoperation of the tailgate.Motorised operationThe motorised operation of the tail-gate is configured in the Settings >Vehicle touch screen application. There are several ways of operating the tailgate:A.Using the Keyless Entry and Start system’selectronic keyB.Using the exterior tailgate controlC.Using the interior tailgate controlD.Using the control on the dashboardIf motorised operation is not activated, therequest to open with this function releasethe tailgate (partially-open position).OpeningA long press on the central button A of theelectronic key.orA short press on the exterior tailgate controlB (with the electronic key on your person, ifthe vehicle or the tailgate is locked).orTwo consecutive presses on the control D ofthe dashboard. The tailgate opens, either completely bydefault, or to the position memorisedbeforehand. If motorised operation is not activated, theseactions release the tailgate (partially-openposition).When the vehicle is locked, the request toopen the boot with one of the controls Aor B unlocks the vehicle, or only the boot ifselective unlocking is activated, prior to theopening of the boot.ClosingA long press on the central button A of theelectronic key.orA short press on the exterior tailgate controlB.orA short press on the interior tailgate controlC.Access38
orTwo consecutive presses on the control D ofthe dashboard. It is possible to interrupt the operation ofthe tailgate at any point.Pressing one of these controls againinterrupts the movement that is underway.Following the interruption of a movement, pressing one of these controls again reversesthe movement. If the tailgate is left open for an extendedperiod of time, the tailgate may need tobe closed manually to reset power tailgatefunctionality.Hands-free function (Hands-Free Tailgate Access)With the electronic key on your person, thisfunction allows the motorised tailgate to beopened, closed or stopped via a "kicking"movement under the rear bumper. The "Handsfree Trunk Opening"function is configured in the Settings> Vehicle touch screen application.Ensure that you are steady on your feetbefore performing the "kicking" movement.Take care not to touch the exhaust systemwhich may be hot - risk of burns!Rechargeable hybrid or electricvehiclesThe function is not available when the vehicleis connected (depending on version).Position yourself behind the vehicle bythe number plate and perform a "kicking"movement in the "OK" detection zone. The "kicking" movement must be given forwards, smoothly, not too fast and with a verticalmovement from low to high. Raise the footsufficiently and remove it immediately.Acknowledgement of the "kicking" movementis confirmed by the lighting of the directionindicators."Sideward kicking" movements do notwork. If the "kicking" movement has notbeen detected, wait at least 2 seconds beforerepeating the movement.Do not perform repetitive "kicking"movements. If the motorised tailgate has not started to openor close, check that:– the function is activated.– the electronic key is on your person, outsidethe vehicle in the rear recognition area.– the "kicking" movement was performed in thedetection zone, close enough to the bumper.– the foot was removed from the bumper quicklyenough. When the vehicle is locked, the request toopen the tailgate with this function unlocksthe vehicle, or only the tailgate if selectiveunlocking is activated, prior to the opening ofthe tailgate.Closing the tailgate with the "Hands-FreeTailgate Access" function enables you to lockthe vehicle.Recommendations on the hands-freefunction (Hands-Free Tailgate Access)If it does not work, check that the electronic keyis not exposed to a source of electromagneticinterference (e.g. smartphone). The function may be deactivated or affected ifthere is rain or snow. The function may not work correctly with a 2prosthetic leg.Access392
In some circumstances, the tailgate may open orclose by itself, particularly when:– hitching up or removing a trailer.– operating a towing device.– fitting or removing a bicycle carrier.– loading or unloading bicycles on/from a bicyclecarrier.– depositing or lifting something behind thevehicle.– an animal approaches the rear bumper.– washing the vehicle.– maintenance is performed on the vehicle.– accessing the spare wheel. To avoid such operating problems, keep theelectronic key away from the recognition zoneor deactivate the hands-free function.Towing deviceThe installation of a towing device maydisturb the detection system.Perform the "kicking" movement on theright side of the towing device.Memorising an openingpositionTo limit the opening angle of the motorisedtailgate:move the tailgate to the desired positionmanually or by pressing the button.press button C or the exterior control Bfor more than 3 seconds (memorisation isconfirmed by a brief audible signal).A new memorisation operation cancels theprevious one.Memorising is not available until the heightof opening is more than or equal to 1metre between the low position and the highposition of the tailgate.Manual operationThe tailgate can be manoeuvred by hand, evenwith motorised operation activated. The tailgate must be stationary. With resumption of the motorised functionThe motorised tailgate function can be activatedmanually. With the boot open: vigorously move thetailgate a little in the closing direction toactivate motorised closing. With the boot partly open: vigorously movethe tailgate a little in the opening direction toactivate motorised opening.Without resumption of the motorisedfunctionMove the tailgate as slowly and smoothly aspossible.Assistance from the gas struts is no longeravailable when opening and closing themotorised tailgate manually. Resistance toopening and closing is therefore quite normal. In case of the motor overheatingRepeatedly opening and closing themotorised tailgate can cause overheating ofits electric motor, after which opening andclosing will not be possible.Allow at least 10 minutes for the electricmotor to cool down before operating thetailgate again. If you are unable to wait, operate it manually.Manual closing of themotorised tailgate in case offailureThis operation is only necessary in the case offailure or deinitialisation/loss of the tailgatemotor. If the failure originates from the battery, it isrecommended to recharge it or change it withthe tailgate closed. In this situation, a significant force may beneeded to close the tailgate.Close it gently without slamming, as slowlyas possible, by pushing at the centre of thetailgate.Do not lower the tailgate by pushing at oneof its sides - risk of damage! In wintry conditionsTo avoid any operating problems, removethe snow or wait until the ice melts beforerequesting motorised opening of the tailgate.Access40
