Peugeot 207 2009-2011 Safety

6iSAFETY101DIRECTION INDICATORS Selection of the left or right direction in-dicators to signal a change of direction of the vehicle. If you forget to cancel the direction indicators for more than twenty seconds, the volume of the audible signal will increase if the speed is above 40 mph (60 km/h). Lower the lighting stalk when moving to the left. Raise the lighting stalk when moving to the right. "Motorway" function Press brie y upwards or downwards, without going beyond the point of re-sistance; the direction indicators will ash 3 times. EMERGENCY OR ASSISTANCECALL This system allows you to make an emergency or assistance call to the emergency services or to the dedicated PEUGEOT service. For more information on the use of this function, refer to the "Audio and tele-matics" section.
6iSAFETY102 HAZARD WARNING LAMPS A visual warning by means of the direc-tion indicators to alert other road users to a vehicle breakdown, towing or ac-cident. Press this button, the direction indi-cators ash. They can operate with the ignition off. Automatic operation of hazard warning lamps When braking in an emergency, de-pending on the deceleration, the hazard warning lamps come on automatically. They switch off automatically the rst time you accelerate. You can also switch them off by pressing the button. HORN Press one of the spokes of the steer-ing wheel. Use the horn moderately and only in the following cases: - immediate danger, - overtaking a cyclist or pedes-trian, - when approaching an area where there is no visibility. Audible warning to alert other road us-ers to an imminent danger.
6i!!SAFETY103BRAKING ASSISTANCE SYSTEMS * Group of supplementary systems which help you to obtain optimum braking in complete safety in emergency situations: - anti-lock braking system (ABS), - electronic brake force distribution (EBFD), - emergency braking assistance (EBA). Anti-lock braking system and electronic brake force distribution Linked systems which improve the sta-bility and manoeuvrability of your vehi-cle when braking, in particular on poor or slippery surfaces. When braking in an emergency, press very rmly without releasing the pressure. Emergency braking assistance System which, in an emergency, en-ables you to obtain the optimum braking pressure more quickly, thus reducing the stopping distance. Activation The anti-lock braking system comes into operation automatically when there is a risk of wheel lock. Normal operation of the ABS may make itself felt by slight vibration of the brake pedal. Activation It is triggered by the speed at which the brake pedal is pressed. The effect of this is a reduction in the resistance of the pedal and an increase in braking ef ciency. * According to country. When braking in an emergency, press rmly without releasing the pressure. Operating fault If this warning lamp comes on, accompanied by an audible sig-nal and a message in the mul-tifunction screen, it indicates a malfunction of the anti-lock braking sys-tem which could result in loss of control of the vehicle when braking. If this warning lamp comes on, together with the STOP and ABS warning lamps, accompa-nied by an audible signal and a message in the multifunction screen, it indicates a malfunction of the electron-ic brake force distribution which could result in loss of control of the vehicle when braking. You must stop as soon as it is safe to do so. In either case, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop. When replacing wheels (tyres and rims), ensure that they conform to the manufacturer's recommenda-tions.
6!SAFETY104 The ESP/ASR systems offer ex-ceptional safety in normal driving, but this should not encourage the driver to take extra risks or drive at high speed. The correct functioning of these systems depends on observation of the manufacturer's recommen-dations on: - wheels (tyres and rims), - braking system components, - electronic components, - assembly and repair proce-dures. After an impact, have these sys-tems checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop. Deactivation In exceptional conditions (starting a vehicle which is bogged down, stuck in snow, on soft ground, ...), it may be advisable to disarm the ASR and ESP systems, so that the wheels can move freely and regain grip. Press the "ESP OFF" button, locat-ed in the centre of the dashboard. If this warning lamp comes on in the instru-ment panel and the indicator lamp in the button comes on, this indicates that the ASR and ESP systems are deactivated. Reactivation These systems are reactivated automat-ically each time the ignition is switched back on or from 30 mph (50 km/h). Press the "ESP OFF" button again to reactivate them manually. TRAJECTORY CONTROLSYSTEMS Activation These systems are activated automati-cally each time the vehicle is started. Anti-slip regulation (ASR) and electronic stability programme (ESP) They come into operation in the event of a grip or trajectory problem. This is indicated by ashing of this warning lamp in the instru-ment panel. Steering/ESP coupling system (SSP) The anti-slip regulation (also known as Traction Control) optimises traction to prevent skidding of the wheels, by act-ing on the brakes of the driving wheels and on the engine. The electronic stability programme acts on the brake of one or more wheels and on the engine to keep the vehicle on the trajectory required by the driver, within the limits of the laws of physics. This system optimises the stability of the vehicle and its braking capacity by combining the actions of the ESP and electric power steering when braking on surfaces on which the grip of the right-hand and left-hand wheel differs. It permits increased braking of the wheels which are in contact with the section of road offering the higher level of grip and, anticipating the instability of the vehicle, the application of a slight correction to the turning angle of the wheels to assist the driver in maintain-ing his trajectory. Operating fault If this warning lamp comes on, accompanied by an audible sig-nal and a message in the multi-function screen, this indicates a malfunction of these systems. Have them checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop.
6SAFETY105SEAT BELTS Height adjustment Seat belt not fastened/unfastened warning lamp on the instrument panel Fastening Pull the strap, then insert the tongue in the buckle. Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly by pulling the strap. To lower the attachment point, squeeze control A and slide it downwards. To raise the attachment point, slide control A upwards. When the ignition is switched on, this warning lamp comes on on the instrument panel if the driver has not fastened their seat belt. Above approximately 12 mph (20 km/h) and for two minutes, this warning lamp ashes accompanied by an audible signal of increasing volume. When the two minutes have elapsed, this warning lamp remains on until the driver fastens their seat belt. This warning lamp comes on on the in-strument panel if one or more passengers unbuckle their seat belt. Unfastening Press the red button on the buckle. Front seat belts The front seat belts are tted with a pre-tensioning and force limiting system. This system improves safety in the front seats in the event of front impacts. De-pending on the severity of the impact, the pretensioning system instantly tight-ens the seat belts against the body of the occupants. The pretensioning seat belts are active when the ignition is on. The force limiter reduces the pressure of the seat belt on the chest of the oc-cupant, increasing his protection. On the 5-door versions, a slider, tted on the seat belt, makes it possible to support the buckle as close as possible to the upper mounting.
6SAFETY1061. Front left seat belt warning lamp. 2. Front right seat belt warning lamp. 3. Rear left seat belt warning lamp. 4. Rear centre seat belt warning lamp. 5. Rear right seat belt warning lamp. On the central panel, the corresponding warning lamp 1 or 2 comes on in red if the seat belt is not fastened or is unfas-tened. When the engine is running, the corre-sponding warning lamp 1 or 2 comes on in red, accompanied by an audible sig-nal and a message on the multifunction screen, if a front occupant has unfas-tened their seat belt. Seat belt not fastened/unfastened warning lamp panel Rear seat belts The rear seats are tted with three, three point, inertia reel seat belts. Seat belt unfastened warning lamp panel When the ignition is switched on, the corresponding warning lamps 3, 4 and 5come on for approximately 30 seconds in red if the seat belt is not fastened. When the engine is running, the corre-sponding warning lamp 3, 4 or 5 comes on in red, accompanied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunc-tion screen, if a rear passenger has unfastened their seat belt. Fastening Pull the strap, then insert the tongue in the buckle. Check that the seat belt is fastened correctly by pulling the strap. Unfastening Press the red button on the buckle.
6iSAFETY107 The driver must ensure that the passengers use the seat belts cor-rectly and that they are all properly restrained before setting off. Wherever you are seated in the ve-hicle, always fasten your seat belt, even for short journeys. Do not invert the seat belt buckles as they will not ful l their role fully. If the seats have armrests * , the lap part of the seat belt must always pass under the armrest. The seat belts are tted with an in-ertia reel permitting automatic ad-justment of the length of the strap to your size. The seat belt is stored automatically when not in use. Before and after use, ensure that the seat belt is reeled in correctly. The lower part of the strap must be positioned as low as possible on the pelvis. The upper part must be positioned in the hollow of the shoulder. The inertia reels are tted with an automatic locking device which comes into operation in the event of a collision, on emergency braking or if the vehicle rolls over. You can release the device by pulling rapidly on the strap and releasing it. * According to model. In order to be effective, a seat belt: - must be tightened as close to the body as possible, - must restrain one adult only, - must not bear any trace of cuts or fraying, - must be pulled in front of you with a smooth movement, checking that it does not twist, - must not be transformed or modi ed to avoid altering its performance. In accordance with current safety regu-lations, all repairs and checks must be carried out by a PEUGEOT dealer who can guarantee that the work is carried out correctly, or quali ed workshop. Have your seat belts checked regularly by a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop and particularly if the straps show signs of damage. Clean the seat belt straps with soapy water or a textile cleaning product, sold by PEUGEOT dealers. After folding or moving a seat or rear bench seat, ensure that the seat belt is positioned and rolled up correctly. Recommendations for children: - use a suitable child seat if the pas-senger is less than 12 years old or shorter than one metre fty, - do not use the strap-guide * when a child seat is installed, - never use the same seat belt to secure more than one person, - never allow a child to travel on your lap. Depending on the nature and se-riousness of the impacts , the pre-tensioning device may be triggered before and independently of the air-bags. Triggering of the pre-tensioners is accompanied by a slight emission of harmless smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic car-tridge incorporated in the system. In all cases, the airbag warning lamp comes on. Following an impact, have the seat belts system checked, and if neces-sary replaced, by a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop.
6i!SAFETY108 AIRBAGS The airbags do not operate when the ignition is switched off. This equipment will only operate once. If a second impact occurs (dur-ing the same or a subsequent acci-dent), the airbag will not operate. Front airbags System which protects the head and chest of the driver and front passenger in the event of a front impact. The driver's airbag is tted in the centre of the steering wheel; the front passen-ger's airbag is tted in the dashboard above the glove box. Operation The airbags are deployed simultane-ously, unless the passenger's front airbag is deactivated, in the event of a serious front impact applied to all or part of the front impact zone A , in the lon-gitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal plane and directed from the front to the rear of the vehicle. The front airbag in ates between the front occupant of the vehicle and the dashboard to cushion their forward movement. Impact detection zones A. Front impact zone. B. Side impact zone. Deployment of the airbag(s) is ac-companied by a slight emission of harmless smoke and a noise, due to the activation of the pyrotechnic car-tridge incorporated in the system. This smoke is not harmful, but sen-sitive individuals may experience slight irritation. The noise of the detonation may result in a slight loss of hearing for a short time. System designed to maximise the safety of the occupants (with the exception of the rear centre passenger) in the event of violent collisions. It supplements the action of the force-limiting seat belts. If a collision occurs, the electronic de-tectors record and analyse the front and side impacts sustained in the impact detection zones: - in the case of a serious impact, the airbags are deployed instantly and protect the occupants of the vehicle (with the exception of the rear centre passenger); immediately after the impact, the airbags de ate rapidly so that they do not hinder visibility or the exit of the occupants, - in the case of a minor or rear impact or in certain roll-over conditions, the airbags will not be deployed; the seat belt alone is suf cient to pro-vide optimum protection in these situations.
6!!SAFETY109 If both airbag warning lamps come on continuously, do not install a "rear facing" child seat on the front passenger seat. Have it checked by a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop. Operating fault If this warning lamp comes on in the instrument panel, accompa-nied by an audible warning and a message in the multifunction screen, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer be deployed in the event of a serious impact. To assure the safety of your child, it is imperative that the passen-ger's airbag is deactivated when you install a "rear facing" child seat on the front passenger seat. Otherwise, the child would risk be-ing seriously injured or killed if the airbag were deployed. According to version, this warn-ing lamp comes on either in the instrument panel or in the central panel when the ignition is on and until the airbag is reactivated. Reactivation When you remove the child seat, turn switch 1 to the "ON" position to reacti-vate the airbag and so assure the safety of your front passenger in the event of an impact. Deactivation Only the front passenger's airbag can be deactivated: with the ignition off , insert the key in the passenger airbag deactivation switch 1 , turn it to the "OFF" position, then, remove the key keeping the switch in the new position.
6!SAFETY110 Lateral airbags * System which protects the driver and front passenger in the event of a seri-ous side impact in order to limit the risk of injury to the chest. Each lateral airbag is tted in the front seat back frame, on the door side. Operation It is deployed unilaterally in the event of a serious side impact applied to all or part of the side impact zone B , per-pendicular to the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal plane and directed from the outside towards the inside of the vehicle. The lateral airbag in ates between the front occupant of the vehicle and the corresponding door trim panel. Curtain airbags * System which protects the driver and passengers (with the exception of the rear centre passenger) in the event of a serious side impact in order to limit the risk of head injuries. Each curtain airbag is tted in the pil-lars and the upper part of the passenger compartment. If this warning lamp comes on in the instrument panel, accom-panied by an audible signal and a message on the multifunction screen, contact a PEUGEOT dealer or a quali ed workshop to have the system checked. The airbags may no longer be deployed in the event of a serious impact. * According to country. Operating fault Operation It is deployed at the same time as the corresponding lateral airbag in the event of a serious side impact applied to all or part of the side impact zone B , perpen-dicular to the longitudinal centreline of the vehicle on a horizontal plane and directed from the outside towards the inside of the vehicle. The curtain airbag in ates between the front or rear occupant of the vehicle and the windows. In the event of a minor impact or bump on the side of the vehicle or if the vehicle rolls over, the airbag may not be deployed. The airbag is not deployed in the event of a rear or front collision. Impact detection zones A. Front impact zone. B. Side impact zone. * According to country.
6!SAFETY111 Front airbags Do not drive holding the steering wheel by its spokes or resting your hands on the centre part of the wheel. Passengers must not place their feet on the dashboard. Smoke as little as possible as deployment of the airbags can cause burns or the risk of injury from a cigarette or pipe. Never remove or pierce the steering wheel or hit it violently. Lateral airbags * Only put approved covers on the seats, compatible with deployment of the lateral air-bags. To see the range of compatible seat covers for your vehicle, visit a PEUGEOT dealer (see "Practical information § Accessories"). Do not x or attach anything to the seat backs. This could cause injury to the chest or arms when the lateral airbag in ates. Do not sit with the upper part of the body any nearer to the door than necessary. Curtain airbags * Do not x or attach anything to the roof. This could cause injury to the head when the curtain airbag in ates. Do not remove the grab handles installed on the roof, they play a part in securing the curtain airbags. For the airbags to be fully effective, observe the following safety rules: Sit in a normal upright position. Wear a correctly adjusted seat belt. Do not leave anything between the occupants and the airbags (a child, pet, object...). This could hamper the operation of the airbags or in-jure the occupants. After an accident or if the vehicle has been stolen or broken into, have the airbag systems checked. All work on the airbag system must be carried out by a PEUGEOT deal-er or a quali ed workshop. Even if all of the precautions men-tioned above are observed, a risk of injury or of slight burns to the head, chest or arms when an airbag is de-ployed cannot be ruled out. In fact, the bag in ates almost instantly (within a few milliseconds) then de ates within the same time dis-charging hot gas via the openings provided for this purpose. * According to country.
